A Hopeful Future in Fish Farming

In Maramvya, a new wave of hope is growing among women and girls who dream of building better lives through fish farming. With the encouragement of CAREC (Community Advocates for Women’s Reproduction and Children’s Health), many are beginning to plan their first steps into this promising field.

Although most of them haven’t yet started raising fish, they are filled with motivation and a clearer understanding of what it takes to begin. From identifying suitable locations for ponds to estimating startup costs, these women are now equipped with a vision—and the will to make it real.

“For a long time, I didn’t know where to start,” says Aline, a young woman from the area. “Now I believe it’s possible. Even if I don’t have the capital yet, I know what to work toward.”

CAREC continues to guide them through the planning phase—helping them build small savings groups, explore funding options, and strengthen their confidence. The idea is simple: when women are supported, they rise.

While the fish have not yet arrived, the determination is already swimming deep in their hearts. And for many of them, that’s the first step toward a better life.
